1. Film Scanning Technician
Are you someone who loves to get their photos edited just right? Do you already scan your own film at home? Would you consider yourself a master of color theory with a keen eye for fine details? Are you good at working with a team in a fast-paced environment to deliver exceptional quality at all times? This may be the job for you!
We are looking for another set of good eyes who has complete knowledge of color theory and film scanning workflows. At LA Film Lab, we strive to always deliver clients’ scans back to them the best we can. This means we work to correct each individual image for perfect color and file organization to ensure photographers receive their film back in both a timely and perfect manner.
Right now, a Saturday-Monday schedule is needed (11a-7p).
The selected applicant will be in charge of running film through our Noritsu HS-1800 scanners, making corrections to balance image colors, tones, etc., to deliver scans back to both the client’s and lab’s specifications. We take our scanning very seriously and know our clients expect a high level of quality from us, so applicants must be able to match and exceed color theory expectations/skills.
In this position, you will also be required to work alongside our team to maintain proper order workflow and delivery. Excellent organization and file management and moderate to excellent literacy in both Mac and Windows operating systems is an absolute must.
For this position, please include relevant experience only as well as a portfolio of your imagery/photo work if you would like to share.
Pay: starting at $18/hour during the evaluation period.
2. General Lab Technician
The lab is also on the lookout for another general set of hands to help with daily operations. This means you will be responsible for several smaller tasks around the lab to help maintain proper order organization, workflow, and customer service.
This is a ‘Front of House’ position and will require an applicant who is both easy going and communicative to our friendly customer-base, and also who has a dense knowledge of the various film processes and film stocks to assist customers properly, always with accurate information.
In addition to helping to assist daily clients, in this position you will be working in our film ‘finishing’ station to package and keep track of all completed orders. Also, this applicant will help with general checks of on-hand inventory of lab related necessities, such as film sleeves, printer paper, etc.
We are currently looking to fill a Thursday-Sunday (11a-7p) schedule for this position.
Excellent organization and file management and moderate to excellent literacy in both Mac and Windows operating systems is an absolute must. Knowledge of various film stocks/film selection and the fundamentals of analog photography are major pluses. The selected applicant will also be able to work under tight deadlines to deliver customer orders as efficiently as possible, all while still providing superb, quality results. Additionally, the position can evolve into other things if the candidate desires to bring new initiatives to the lab. This would all depend on both the applicant’s interests and the lab’s needs at any given time.
For this position, please include relevant experience only as well as a portfolio of your imagery/photo work if you would like to share.
Pay: starting at $18/hour during the evaluation period.
All positions will start with a 30-to-45-day training/proving period, after which the rate is re-evaluated depending on final placement and performance. All positions require a strong desire for perfection, as we are taking care of people’s once-in-a-lifetime family memories, first-time high-paying jobs shooting for prestigious publications, and many other kinds of unmissable moments where missing the mark means orders of magnitude more to that person (and many others) than someone’s $10 processing order. We strive for perfection. And that should be an exciting challenge (as opposed to a deterrent) for those we’re looking to hire. Candidates should thrive with constructive critique for improvement and should return the favor to other team members openly, honestly, and with respect. Help us all care more, do more, and be more every day you come to work.
If anything is unclear, always ask. We love open, honest communication.
